Thekkady is built around the Periyar Tiger Reserve, one of Kerala’s best-known wildlife sanctuaries, where a quiet boat ride across Periyar Lake is often enough to spot wild elephants, sambar deer, and a wide range of birdlife along the shoreline. The surrounding hills are thick with cardamom, pepper, and clove plantations, and a guided spice tour is a relaxed way to spend an afternoon between wildlife outings. Most of our guests pair Thekkady with Munnar as a two-destination trip — misty tea country followed by dense forest and wildlife, all within a few hours’ drive.
